How do you get them off the horse ?

The labor party is riding high, and YES, it worries us .See the LOCAL NEWS

Our Mr Cheeseman is on a roll in Colac this week with another of his seminars on the future. This week its windmills, and he's is there fighting.

Bern to Sir H Doesn't it ever worry you to see newchums always picking the new brumby called "the future" to ride . I know you sometimes think its good for ministers to get their own way. But surely there are times when the Minister is risking his future by choosing the expensive and fast option to the future.

Sirh Not an easy call mate. As you say, sometimes they simply need to hit the brick wall or fall off. I mean your talking about the most common maladaptive disease ministers have - the quickfiz syndrome ? And one of the most costly ways to waste the people's money.
Bern All those wacky ideas about how to change the world in one term of office. I guess you're right .
Sirh Don't forget we are trained to deal with each case in a considered and effective (long term ) manner- otherwise we wouldn't be here !
Bern It can hard to watch ,,,though
Sirh Maybe for you , Bernard but you've got to cruel to be kind!
The newchums often talk sustainability , but they forget that WE are the ones that have SOME legitimacy in that area - we have been there a long time; we trained and studied and some our people still know what they are talking about.
Bern But I mean you see them getting all excited - you don't want to dampen their enthusiasm for what 's basically ....a really good aim .like Sustainability

SirH Well they shouldn't have sacked all the sustainability experts they once had. You obviously don't have children . Tapping their enthusiasm means putting a throttle and switch valve on - let em have open slather and its all foam and spilt out everywhere - nogood-- all colour and movement .
These newchums to Labor clearly have never read or understood their mentors warning about good intentions- AND how else do we get to them when we are desperate? but by asking to read and remember their mentors in the faith .

Bern What about humor? I mean it's a bit ridiculous them falling for same old, same old , hot air talk dressed up, this time around , in the latest technological garb.
SirH Believe me , they have no sense of humor about their wacky ideas. Sometimes you do get away with- " oh thats been tried before" - and name the person or party ( don quixote for eg)"
Bern See your point. Sometimes its just EASIER to let the PM let his ministers get back on their favourite horses and ride them out into the sunset -

SirH As long as we know approximately how long it will take them to come back . WE know the territory better than them .....don't forget !
Bern Yes its often much easier to deal with them once they have been out for a biT of a ride...... on their own!

SirH They don't seem to like the sense of loneliness in particular; , but if not that , the cool breeze and the strange looks can do the trick !

Do they understand what they are doing?

Bern Do you think The PM is worried that his love affair with hot air around the world could cost him the election? Is he worried by Barnaby 's reminder about John Hewsons advance of a new tax and its cost this week ?

Will he, like Chamberlain, please the United Nations, but lose the people?

Sir H I haven't detected that , I think they all still believe that they are doing the right thing and they will hold the confidence of the people till the election . Mind you having an assistant to the assistant minister for writing wongs doesn't sound awefully convincing ?
Bern fair enough - I agree, they seem to be confident , but do you think the people are silly enough to fall for still more newly named carbon tokens and there ever changing implications ?

Is not the whole basis for this grand new tax coming adrift? What are they aiming at oil , carbon dioxide or farts in general? Doesn't look like anyone is going to see the carbon dioxide-- carbon economy connection as a real one in 6 months time.
The amazing thing is that Fielding - that complete outsider , has got them running , first off family first , on just that point!
SirH Yes confidence is a dangerous thing . It can keep you going when you should have stopped and had a good rest and reflection . Make a first perhaps ? - intellectual suicide , economic suicide ( Barnaby's )topped off by political suicide.
